This quest gives a chance to earn xp to all skills and powers.

You meet Hew, an apprentice flautist. He asks how far it is to Drelmond. You can:

  • Tell him you've never heard of Drelmord
  • Ask him about Drelmord
  • Bid him farewell and be on your way

Whatever your choice, you face a series of 5 to 10 random checks, fewer if you pass sufficiently often:

  1. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~7-10 SP if you don't pass
  2. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~5-14 SP if you don't pass
  3. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 75 or more needed to pass. You lose ?? SP if you don't pass
  4. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~13-16 SP if you don't pass
  5. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 75 or more needed to pass. You lose ?? SP if you don't pass
  6. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~18-24 SP if you don't pass
  7. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 75 or more needed to pass. You lose ~17 SP if you don't pass
  8. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~23-26 SP if you don't pass
  9. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 75 or more needed to pass. You lose ~23-24 SP if you don't pass
  10. Random check (1-100 + Spirit * 1.00 + Mind * 1.00 + Aura * 0.50). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~23-28 SP if you don't pass

After the final check, Hew's flute falls silent. You can:

  • Use Telekinesis (30+) or Shadow Magic (30+):
    • Success: 4 XP to Telekinesis or Shadow Magic, then (with wording varying slightly according to power employed):
      • Attack him before he fully rises / where he is held: you fight Hew (wounded) (11+ Scaled, 150 SP, 6 XP), you have to attack 1 time before you can flee
      • Maintain a defensive stance: you face a Random check (1-100 + Mind * 1.00 + Body * 1.00 + Spirit * 1.00). 100 or more needed to pass. You lose ~22 SP if you don't pass. You then fight Hew (12+ Scaled, 175 SP, 9 XP), you have to attack 1 time before you can flee
      • Flee immediately: see below
    • Failure: you lose ~23-28 SP. You then face a Random check (1-100 + Mind * 1.00 + Body * 1.00 + Spirit * 1.00). 100 or more needed to pass. Untested, but likely loss of SP or even death if you don't pass. You then fight Hew (12+ Scaled, 175 SP, 12 XP), you have to attack 1 time before you can flee.
  • Attack him: you fight Hew (wounded) (11+ Scaled, 150 SP, 6 XP), you have to attack 1 time before you can flee
  • Attempt to flee: see below

If you fight and defeat Hew, you receive 32 XP, ~21-28 gold, his Wooden Flute and his Engraved Dagger.

Fleeing[]

If at any point you attempt to flee, including fleeing from combat, you face a Random check (1-100 + Agility * 1.00 + Body * 1.00). 75 or more needed to pass. You get away unharmed if you pass. You are killed if you don't pass.

You receive a completion reward of 32 AS&P and 256 XP.
